Viet Nam attends NAM Ministerial Meeting in Egypt

(VGP - 09/05/2012) - A Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Le Luong Minh is attending the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Egypt from May 7-10.
The meeting is focused on preparations for a high-level meeting of the NAM to be held in Tehran, Iran in August.

Head of the Department of International Organizations under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hoang Chi Trung said Viet Nam and other NAM member countries have focused on measures to build the ASEAN community as well as stability and peace in the region and other parts of the world.

Viet Nam has also dwelled on the disarmament issue and the need to build a world free of nuclear weapons and implement the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.  

On the sidelines of the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Luong Minh also met with other NAM officials to gather support for Viet Nam’s participation in the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term, the UN Human Rights Council for the 2014-2016 term and for the UN Economic and Social Council for the 2016-2018 term.
